Vision Correction: What Procedure is Right for You?

These are the daily hassles that many people have to endure in order to see clearly. These visual aids help people who are nearsighted, farsighted or have astigmatism. However, if you are very active, wearing lenses can hinder your performance and prohibit you from participating in certain activities. The ongoing maintenance of glasses, frames and contacts can also be an expensive nuisance.

At Vistaura Eye, we have helped thousands of people gain the freedom to live life without corrective lenses through these different types of vision correction procedures:

PRK
(Photorefractive Keratectomy)

Corrects refractive errors of nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism with similar results of LASIK for people with thin corneas.

Visian ICL
(Intraocular Contact Lens)

Corrects refractive errors of nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism by implanting a biocompatible Collamer® lens between your iris and natural lens. The lens allows light entering the eye to focus on the retina for clear vision.

When it comes to vision correction, a procedure that is effective for one person may not be right for you – even if you seemingly have the same eyeglass prescription.

The right procedure for you will depend on several factors:

  • Corneal thickness
  • Presence of eye disease or eye conditions
  • Strength of your glasses prescription (refractive error)
  • Tear film assessment
  • Age
  • Medical condition
  • Vision goals

The only way to find out if clear vision without glasses is a possibility for you is by scheduling a free LASIK Consultation with us. You can learn if having LASIK or PRK in Harrisburg, PA, is right for you. There is no obligation and you will leave our office knowing more about your own eye health. The decision on how to proceed will be entirely up to you.

Alternative to LASIK: Visian ICL

Implantable Collamer Lenses (ICL) are a good alternative for people who are not suitable for refractive procedures such as LASIK because of:

At Vistaura Eye, we offer patients the Visian® ICL in Harrisburg as an excellent alternative to LASIK to treat a wide range of refractive errors (nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism).

How the Visian ICL Works

Made from biocompatible Collamer®, this lens is implanted between your iris and natural lens through tiny corneal incisions. The lens allows light entering the eye to focus on the retina for clear vision. Even though the lens will be invisible to others, it can make your vision sharper and more vivid. Some patients will see more clearly immediately after the procedure is performed.

Benefits of Visian ICL

  • Collamer lens material works in harmony with your eye’s natural chemistry
  • Less chance of dry eye
  • Provides a layer of UV protection for your eyes
  • Permanent, yet removable option for vision improvement
  • Procedure takes just 20-30 minutes
  • Results are often immediate
  • Lens is unnoticeable to others

The procedure itself typically causes very little discomfort and no pain for most patients because the eye is numbed with a topical or local anesthetic prior to the procedure. It is performed in our office as an outpatient procedure.

If you are between the ages of 21 and 45 and want to learn more about Visian ICLs, call our offices to schedule a free LASIK Consultation.
